Our Technology

Northern Vascular Systems is developing a light-activated liquid embolic platform. This investigational technology consists of three core components: a photo-curable embolic agent, a delivery catheter with embedded optical fibre, and an accompanying laser module. The system is being designed to enable on-demand solidification of embolic materials for controlled vascular occlusion and to integrate seamlessly with existing angiography equipment.

  • Injectable

The NVS Gel is a shear-thinning embolic agent in development, designed for smooth delivery through microcatheters. Upon deposition, it transitions back to a more viscous state - a characteristic intended to support durable vascular occlusion.

  • Water-Soluble

The NVS Gel is formulated without dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). It remains water-soluble under laboratory conditions, allowing it to dissolve if not photoactivated.

  • Mechanically Compliant

We are investigating the flow resistance characteristics of photo-activated, solidified NVS Gel under simulated in vivo conditions to better understand and optimize its performance.
